Not possible to release several time the same product
Releasing several times the same item into the same company raises an error message in the log of product releases, which is not properly handled through the application : Cannot create a record in Item table (RetailInventTable). Item number: XXX. The record already exists. This is not user-fr...
The error messages are updated to be more user friendly.
When you try to release several times the same product you will get the infolog "One or more products cannot be released. Validate the open product releases in the Open product releases form to identify the reason, and try again". In the Open product releases form, identify the release for the product released for a second or more time and you will find the error message "The product X cannot be released as it has already been released in the legal entity".
Also when trying to release a variant through the + button on the released variants form when navigating from the released product master, the error message you will be given if you try to release a variant that was already released is the following "Product variant with the specified dimensions has already been created".

In the Fall release 2017 we have extended the defaulting properties of the Product categories (in the Retail category hierarchy). Among other properties you can now set the default reservation hierarchy in the General product properties and the Unit sequence groups ID in the Basic product properties.

Block purchase order creation but not open purchase order lines.

In release products , Engineer - > default order settings we have an option under Purchase "Stopped" checkbox.
If we are enabling it, it blocks creation of purchase orders manually or from Master Planning and also open purchase order lines.
Thanks for your input! This is already posssible to be done by using the detailed business processes of the product lifecycle state.
You will need to enable the Engineering Change Management configuration key. When you do, in the form "Product lifecycle state" you will see a more controlled business processes. You can create your own lifecycle states and create one that does not allow purchase. When you assign this lirfecycle state to a proudct, it will prevent the product to be added to new purchase orders, but it will still allow the existing lines to be continued. You do not need to use any of the existing Engineering Change Management functionality.
There is an idea that is to make the product lifecycle state indpendent of the Engineering Change Management configuration key, and you can vote it if desired on: Microsoft Idea (dynamics.com)

Description has not been added as it is a longer field and would take much space on the screen. You can add the description to the table with "Insert fields" as the datasource has now been added.
