Suggested by Laurens van der Tang – Completed
It is currently not possible to do an over pick for raw material picking (production order). We have scenario's that the bill of material is not correct and in that case you want to have the option to pick additional items with the warehousing app. Dynamics suggest that this scenario is possible with the warehousing app (parameter allow over pick on mobile device menu item) but it doesn't work.

A must have functionality
-
Indeed, this is a "must have" functionality.
-
This is a standard feature in most other ERP systems. It is a must to implement
-
It a very much needed if your BOM is in each and you have no consistent qty in your other units like boxes - so one box could store different number of eaches and you can't really rely on the conversion rules there. Going with labeling each box and creating more License Plates on a pallet to solve just this production picking problem seems like an overkill as well.

I agree this is a must have feature. However, I’m going to go one step further. There are three critical points to consider. 1. Where is the setting going to be captured? 2. What about the over picked quantity? Is it expected to be automatically reserved to the Production order picking list when it is generated? What about the case when it is stage picking? The over pick functionality should not be possible in this case and the full License plate quantity certainly should not be reserved to the order every time. 3. What about sites where the same Raw material is used? The settings questions mentioned above should be determined by the site where they are consumed. To solve, the formula/BOM line should be the determinate factor. To solve for these points, I suggest the following: 1. The setting to allow over picking should be placed on the Worker profile. This will behave in the same manner as the Sales and transfer order over picking. The completion of work is the same menu item in D365 and should behave in accordance to the worker's over picking policy. I would apply screenshots, however I cannot on this forum. 2. There is a setting on the released product that first sets whether the released product is staging or order picking. If order picking, then a new checkbox is available that indicates whether the over picked quantity is automatically reserved to the Picking list journal line. If set to no, then the over picked quantity would be available for consumption/reservation on a separate production order. 3. The setting on the released product will serve as a default setting on the Formula/BOM line. This solves for scenarios where the same material is used at different sites where the material is used differently. Example: Site X uses stage picking, Site Y uses order picking without autoreservation, and Site Z uses order picking with autoreservation. Thoughts?

This is a must have for us. We have production orders that require picking irregularly sized blocks of foam that are stored as individual batches to be cut into smaller pieces. Each block needs to be fully moved to the production line.

Over pick raw material in production is a Must have feature in FMCG industry.
-
This is a requirement for us as well in the cosmetic industry

Definitely a must have, specially in food manufacturing. As an alternative solution, I solved this issue for one of our customesr using the Picking List Posting device functionality... it never worked as desired by the customer (no control on qtys/items/accesses) but it was more than nothing.

I have built this modification at least 5 times for multiple different clients. I agree it is a must have.
