As the platform matures there will be clients who will inevitably sell their company, while others will go out of business, but may pick it up again at some stage in the future.
There can also be some that want to migrate to onPrem, but options to restore to onPrem are currently limited and excessively lucrative.
And of course some countries will want to have 10 years worth of history even though your company IT solution may have moved on to something else, let's assume FinOps.

A new option could to be added based on the following design, allowing global admins to:

* Create a replica of the SaaS tenant for at least one of the environments at a time (production, Sandbox1, 2,3) into an Azure VM, with all the setup that goes behind the scenes to migrate the database and apps with the current version.

The benefits are endless: you can then take a backup of the Azure VM and save it in the cloud storage
You can later on, coming back in business ask a partner to upgrade your azure VM environment back to the cloud to the latest version.
I am sure many will come back with even more ideas on the benefits.

For Microsoft this will ensure retaining the possible business of their clients, by helping them hold on to their business data in a format that is not strange from their experience, even if their company failed, while allowing them to come back in business with relatively low efforts by migrating to a newer version when they are ready to do so.
