The ability to export a group of records, such as contacts or accounts, modify entire columns in order to support an updated grouping or filter, and then re-import the updated records would be valuable to users and to support departments.

- Teams which had inconsistently used CRM record attributes ( a common adoption problem) could use the tool to re-organize thier data into a consistent, searchable manner.

- Data from separate excel reports can be merged into the exported data and easily updated into a CRM implementation.

I think this should not be possible within Excel but only via the Microsoft CRM Platform so that ISV's or Partners can build business requirements into this the same way Microsoft CRM already accepts (Javascript, Plug-In or Workflow)

Just be aware of the potential risk. One user has the ability to scramble ALL records in the system that he/she has write access to. So it should be possible to restrict this functionality on a security roll basis. Mass destruction YES/NO :-)

Hi Brian, Thank you for your suggestion. This functionality is planned to be delivered in the next major release of CRM. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

With 2300 users on Dynamics CRM and everyone on Excel/Office, I feel that enterprise customers require this functionality without building or partnering. Mass update via excel is a common CRM and ERP function in enterprise client management suites.

I would agree, add the feature in, but make sure it is possible to restrict a user (security role) from being able to perform this task.
