I think that should be very useful if this issue could be standard.
To do it I ass Routing No. VERSION, and Production Bom Version on Item Variants, and i change all the functions to create production orders.
I think that it should be a standard function; it's normal that if i produce different variant for an item, production bom and/or routing no should be different.
is it possible to hope to have this functionality inside standard version ?

Would be great, and I liked the idea to be able to put an alternative routing plan and BOM at SKU level.
This way we can also use alternative BOMS' for different plants containing different machines and departments, and most important different costprices.

For us, it is also important to store BOM for every Item Variant and use it on Assembly Orders.
It is challenging to develop it in the cloud because this modification requires "Primary Key" modification in the "BOM Component" table.

With respect to managing rev levels in the semiconductor and medical device industry, this is a critical addition to a family of additions with respect to variant functionality in Business Central. We have a number of clients looking at BC but since it doesn't handle REV levels (variants) well, it's a problem.

Yes this is definitely needed on SKU level. The variant makes otherwise no sense for a manufacturing company! Customers do not understand that this is not there in the standard, and we (Pre-Sales and Consultants) can not explain why it is missing!
You could also think of making a link to the versions of BOM and Route, i.e. make versions for Variants..
