Hi Team,

This is the idea from Meera Prabhu - RACWA

Scenario

In a Power Apps model-driven app, a date picker/null date field now shows a placeholder like date format such as d/MM/yyyy. Customer says this behavior did not happen before, it just started from last week, appears in Member Central app and reportedly every app in Production, and their main concern is why it appears even though the Production environment is set to Semi-Annual updates, since they believe it should be because of the feature New Look in MDA.

During the investigation, the Product Group confirmed that the observed behavior is product limitation in the latest version. From the customer perspective, although the current behavior is confirmed as expected, it may introduce usability concerns depending on how users interact with date fields in the modern look experience. Customers who are used to the previous datepicker behavior may find the new behavior less intuitive or less aligned with their existing business process and user expectations.

In scenarios where users rely heavily on date entry, date selection, or frequent navigation across dates, any change in the datepicker behavior can directly impact user experience, training effort, and adoption of the modern look interface. This is especially important for customers who are transitioning from the classic experience or previous UI behavior to the latest modern experience.

At the moment, since the behavior is confirmed as product limitation, there does not appear to be a supported configuration option to adjust the datepicker behavior to better match the previous experience or the customer’s preferred interaction pattern.

Expected behavior

We expect the modern look datepicker experience to provide a more flexible or configurable behavior so that customers can better align the datepicker interaction with their business usage and user expectations.

Ideally, the product could support one or more of the following options:

  • Allow administrators to configure the datepicker behavior in the modern look experience where suitable
  • Provide an option to preserve or approximate the previous datepicker interaction model for customers who need consistency during transition
  • Improve the usability of the new datepicker behavior so that date selection is more intuitive for end users
  • Provide clearer product documentation or release notes explaining the datepicker behavior change in the modern look experience
  • Offer guidance or supported design recommendations for customers who may be impacted by this change

This would help customers adopt the modern look experience more smoothly while reducing confusion, training effort, and potential friction for business users.

Actual result

The current datepicker behavior in the latest modern look experience is confirmed by Product Group as Product limitation.

However, from the customer perspective, the behavior may not fully align with their expected user experience or with how users previously interacted with the datepicker. Since the behavior is part of the new version of the datepicker in modern look, customers may not have a supported way to adjust or revert the behavior based on their business preference.

As a result, customers who depend heavily on date fields may experience additional usability challenges, user confusion, or adoption concerns when moving to or using the modern look experience.

Ask

Could the Product Group consider a future enhancement so that:

  • Customers have more flexibility to configure or influence the datepicker behavior in the modern look experience
  • Administrators can provide a more consistent user experience during transition from previous UI behavior to the latest modern look
  • The datepicker experience can better support different customer usage patterns and business workflows
  • Documentation can clearly explain the intended behavior, limitations, and any recommended approach for customers impacted by this design change
  • Product Group may evaluate whether additional usability improvements can be made to make the new datepicker behavior more intuitive and customer-friendly

This enhancement would help improve customer adoption of the modern look experience, reduce usability concerns, and provide customers with more flexibility to align the product behavior with their operational needs.

Thank you for your help.
