Electronic Reporting - API Integration
Electronic Reporting (ER) framework is a powerful tool for regulatory reporting. However, its capabilities could be significantly extended by allowing API endpoints to be used as data sources, enabling both data import and export.
If ER could natively support API integration, customers would be able to directly consume or push data via HTTP requests, opening up new opportunities for automation and integration.
A strong use case is Dataverse integration. Since Idea for Dataverse is already registered for ER (see https://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=c51ad4e2-9f40-ec11-a3ee-0003ff459e22), adding API connectivity would represent a major step forward. This would be particularly valuable for customers who use Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (CE) and need to bring data directly from CE into Finance & Operations (FO) for reporting or output management purposes.
By leveraging the Dataverse Web API (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/developer/data-platform/webapi/overview), ER could:
- Compose and send HTTP requests for specific operations.
- Use third-party libraries to extend reporting and integration scenarios.
- Enable more flexible and scalable integration options beyond the current file-based approach.
This enhancement would make ER an even more strategic component for customers who want to streamline regulatory reporting, cross-app integration, and automation in Dynamics 365FO.
