Currently, in Finance and Operations, any valid worker in the legal entity can approve or validate a formula version. There are no restrictions or workflow capabilities tied to this process. Unlike other documents, formula approvals lack governance and control. This creates risks of unauthorized approvals and reduces accountability.

Proposed Enhancement

• Introduce workflow functionality for formula version approval, similar to purchase orders and requisitions.
• Allow organizations to configure approval hierarchies, roles, or security restrictions for formula approvals.
• Provide audit trail and tracking of who approved or rejected formula versions.
• Enable administrators to enforce mandatory approval steps before formulas can be used in production.

Business Impact

• Ensures only authorized users can approve formulas.
• Provides traceability and accountability for formula changes.
• Prevents accidental or unauthorized approvals that could impact costing, production, or reporting.
• Aligns formula approval with other document workflows already available in D365FO.

Remarks

Microsoft has confirmed that the current design allows any valid worker to approve formulas. This idea requests new design functionality to wire formula approval into workflow and add restrictions/controls.
