My idea is related to the bill of material for manufactured product with 3d dimensions.

For example, imagine a bounding box, a parallelepiped with the three dimensions Hight, Large, Width or X, Y, Z if you prefer.

Imagine you must build library, customer made ones, with personalized dimensions, thickness, number of shelves, and relative positions.

Adding parts to the BOM you will be able to link the dimensions to the dimensions of the bounding box, and their internal positions could be related to it.

Doing the BOM in this way, once to change the three dimensions of the bounding box, all the dimensions will change.

With some other parameter, as material, thickness, colours, you can manage complex product, in a little table.

The result of the table could drive a 3D cad, to obtain the design you need.

This concept isn't new, it comes from the parametric CAD world, but it has a bigger value if it can be independent from the design.

You can parametrize the library to the bounding box, and adding some formulas, you can have a precise bill of material with the dimensions of all the pieces.

This bill of material will be able to generate 3d design, calculate cost, generate information for the assembly, all in a simple way.
