If the user clicks on the "open Associated view" on the Activity wall the view is filtered in a very different way which often returns zero activites. That is because the assiciated view has the "Filter on" option set to "Next 30 days or earlier". So the user has to switch that option to "All" to see all activities. But even that does not fix the problem because the user also has to change the view to a view that shows all activities because the Associated view by default only shows open activites.

The whole user experience around this feature is a total mess and has been so for years. It's very hard to understand why the product team is not focusing just a small amount of time on fixing issues in basic features that are frustating thousands of users contantly. It can't take more than 5 minutes to fix this in the code.

Here's the "master idea" for this feature: Change default from "next 30 days" to "All" for open activity view in accounts and contacts.

It's amazing that it's already 5 years since I first blogged about the struggle with this feature. You'd imagine that working with activities is a feature where the OoB experience can and will be fixed relatively quickly if this type of gaps exist. I guess all the demo flows that MS uses never touch the activity associated view, whereas in real life the history of customer interactions is something the users frequently need to dig deeper than what the Social Pane allows.
