Based on Michael Pontoppidan’s post “Hotfixes without calling Microsoft?”, we need to ensure that Feature Management (and potentially OData) is enabled across all environments. It is essential to have the capability to enable and disable features—where the feature supports disablement—through the Data Management Framework (DMF).

Proposal

To maintain consistency and control, we propose creating data entities for Feature Management. These entities should allow enablement and disablement of features (and potentially hotfixes) in a structured, repeatable manner.

Justification

  • Regulatory Compliance: In regulated industries, configuration consistency across environments is critical to meet compliance requirements and avoid audit risks.
  • Operational Control: Centralized management of feature enablement ensures alignment with organizational standards and reduces the risk of unauthorized changes.
  • Environment Consistency: Using DMF and data entities provides a controlled mechanism to replicate feature configurations across development, test, and production environments.
  • Efficiency & Scalability: Automating feature management through DMF reduces manual effort, minimizes errors, and supports faster deployment of hotfixes without direct vendor intervention.
