The Tier-1 sandbox provided with a D365 for Finance and Operations subscription has a limited amount of space for the AX database - ~60GB. This space needs to accommodate the AX database, the MR database, and the AXDW (data warehouse database.) This is nowhere near enough space to support refreshing this environment with a production database to perform adequate user testing prior to deployment to a Tier-2 environment.
To remedy this, I can think of two options. The first would be to allow a user to add additional disk space to these VMs. As they're included with the subscription, this isn't currently possible. If there needs to be an add-on charge - so be it.
The other option would be to abandon the Tier-1 database included with the subscription and instead provide credits for a similar sized environment on an Azure subscription. At least this way, a user would be able to re-provision the environment with as much space as needed.
