When creating consolidated financial statements where each column of the report filters on financial amounts for a single legal entity, the use of a reporting tree is required to filter the column with the reporting unit filter on the column definition. This is a problem because of the difference in drill-down behavior between reports that include a reporting tree vs reports that don’t utilize a tree.

Report users want the ability to drill from the financial layer of the consolidated report directly to the account layer to display the GL accounts with the financial amounts for all the columns (legal entities) on the same report. Because a reporting tree is used to filter the columns of the financial layer the user can only drill down from the financial layer to the account layer for a single legal entity at a time.

If Legal entity was added as a dimension for all financial transactions in FR, regardless of whether or not legal entity is configured as a financial dimension in the GL, in the same way that main account category is treated as a financial dimension for FR even though it is not defined as a financial dimension in the GL, columns could filter on legal entity as a dimension instead of reporting unit filter and report users would have a much improved drilldown experience.
