We would like to propose an enhancement to Financial Reporting (Management Reporter) in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations regarding the behavior of the Posting Type attribute.
Currently, as confirmed in Issue 1110385 (by design), the Posting Type is treated as an Account-level attribute. As a result, when applying filters in reports, the system only considers the posting type defined at the Main Account level, rather than the actual posting type associated with individual ledger transactions.
Limitation:
This design introduces a significant limitation:
- The Posting Type filter does not reflect transaction-level data
- Reports cannot be accurately filtered based on the real posting types used during transaction posting
- This reduces the analytical capabilities of Financial Reporting, especially in scenarios where multiple posting types are recorded under the same main account
Proposed Enhancement:
We suggest extending the functionality of the Posting Type attribute to support Transaction-level filtering, allowing reports to:
- Retrieve and filter data based on the LedgerPostingType stored in ledger transactions
- Provide more accurate and granular financial analysis
- Align report behavior with user expectations and actual accounting data
Business Impact:
- Improved reporting accuracy and flexibility
- Better audit and reconciliation capabilities
- Enhanced usability for finance teams needing detailed transaction insights
Additional Context:
This limitation has already been acknowledged as "by design," but we believe that evolving this functionality would significantly improve the Financial Reporting experience and align it more closely with real-world business requirements.
Thank you for considering this enhancement.
