Once the goods are in the Pack location, the users need to add a container, load the goods into a container, and close it. This however cannot be done on the mobile device but must be done on the client.

Ideally there should be a "pack" task where for a shipment, the user creates a container, attaches a label, scans the label, and then as the items are put into the container, scan the items to verify that they are packed in the container. They can then close the container and weigh it, verifying the weight against the expected system weight.

This would enable several users to be packing just using mobile devices rather than needing access to the full client to do the packing, reducing the number of screens needed at the packing station. It allow adds a check to be sure that all the items have been packed.

Many customers require packing station functionality through mobile device. After all, packaging is physically performed in shipping areas, not in office. And also, imagining to use client functionality using a tablet is not really efficient, since it's basically mandatory to use barcode scanning.

For these reasons, we needed to develop specific mobile device functionalities regarding packaging, that is:

  • open container, declaring the material (including possibility do include whole LP).
  • close contatiner, declaring not only the weight (net/gross), but also dimensions (that could be variabile from container to container). Specific dimensions (lenght, width, height) has been added in LP/container table.
  • open containers list (similar to open works list), from which calling close container, possibility to add material and/or remove material.
  • reprint container report.

In the end, basically we need to duplicate packing station functionalities without inventing nothing particular.
