Page Background Tasks actually supports only read-only transactions to the database.
A quite common requirement is to start a task in the background that does calculations and then modified some records (for example, marking a record as “calculated” or changing some fields of a related entity).
Having write-transaction support on a page background task is something that will improve a lot the user experience.
