From a CRM perspective, the search looks only for match to email addresses, from what I can tell. The query is only on email.

CRM doesn’t even allow you to create a custom display name. It checks only for uniqueness, and email address is possibly the Primary key.

For Example, if I have a group with name "Group 365" having email address msitgroup@service.microsoft.com , I am able to search and retrieve msitgroup but cannot retrieve any results when I enter keyword "Group 365".


Searching by name is a valid use case; so is this a bug?
