Currently, the parameter Warehouse Management Parameters → Inventory status → “Use default status for sales order” impacts both Sales Orders and Transfer Orders when disabled. MRP does not inherit inventory status when pegging is done against Safety Stocks
When this parameter is disabled, planned stock transfers cannot be converted, and the following error occurs:
“Firming Number: XXXXX Item number: X Status must be specified for a transfer order line.”
This behavior creates unnecessary dependency between two distinct processes—sales and internal transfers—leading to operational inefficiencies.
Current Behavior
- Sales Orders: Flexible by design; inventory status is optional to allow customer-facing transactions without restrictions.
- Transfer Orders: Requires inventory status for internal control and WMS processes
Impact
- Businesses that disable the parameter for sales flexibility inadvertently block transfer order firming.
- Causes delays in warehouse operations and manual intervention to add inventory status.
Proposed Solution
Introduce separate parameters:
- Default Inventory Status for Sales Orders (retain current behavior).
- Default Inventory Status for Transfer Orders (new parameter).
This allows:
- Sales orders to remain flexible.
- Transfer orders to enforce inventory status for process integrity.
