TLDR; implement the billing schedules feature that was promised in a past release!

In the past year, the revenue recognition module has been released as part of D365 Finance, greatly simplifying the process of spreading revenue out into future months for subscription-based businesses. However, Microsoft failed to implement its complimentary solution - billing schedules.

For most subscription-based businesses, revenue is not the only thing that is deferred into future months. Billings themselves often happen over the lifecycle of the subscription. Think of your cable subscription: you likely pay it monthly, even though your subscription is for a year of service. Currently, D365 is not advanced enough to handle such a model and it assumes that, while you may recognize revenue over the course of a year, you will bill entirely upfront. This is extremely far removed from the reality of the situation for most subscription-based businesses. In our case, we had to customize to include the feature that was promised but never delivered.

I request that the Microsoft product team create an additional 'billing schedules' feature to exist as a layer on a sales order. A user could toggle whether or not to use the feature, as to not impact existing/ future orders that do not need to be billed on a schedule.

Appreciate you taking the time to feedback. We however do not have any plans to provide this support for SCM Sales and Marketing.
