When creating Item Templates, the form has Unit of Measure marked as Required. However, of course, per BC documentation, required fields can be left blank. The asterisk is a reminder / suggestion, but not a hard error that prevents saving. The problem arises when a customer uses the Item template and the system is defaulting the UOM field to the first alphabetically defined UOM in the system in all cases. It would be better to simply NOT populate the UOM field while creating a new item from a template. Thus allowing the customer to choose the appropriate UOM. In my client's case, the UOM first defined in the list is rarely the UOM they would want to populate the new item card.
