Aggregation support such as Sum as per defined in the OData standards would be really helpful for ad-hoc reporting.

Currently, the only way to perform aggregation is by defining aggregate data entities. However, it would mean that we have to perform customizations and build aggregate data entities for every customer that we have as they would usually be non-generic due to dimensions etc.

If aggregation was supported by the OData layer, we would be able to build dynamic queries on-the-fly and not rely on customizations.

Thanks for asking for this. Once we have F&O data in Azure Data Lake (ADL) as part of the work for October 2019 release, such scenarios should be handled by lake. We can revisit this topic if ADL will not meet this requirement.
