Problem / Limitation

When creating a Real-Time Marketing (RTM) journey in Dynamics 365 Customer Insights – Journeys, the Segment Selection lookup displays all segments, regardless of their status. This includes:

  • Draft segments
  • Inactive segments
  • Deleted segments
  • Published segments

This lack of filtering creates user confusion and increases the risk of selecting a segment that is not ready or valid for journey execution.

There is currently no built-in filter or admin setting that limits the lookup to only Published segments.

Proposed Solution

Add a system-level filter to the Segment Selection lookup so that it defaults to showing only "Published" segments.

Enhancement options:

  1. Default Filter:
  2. Lookup should show only Published segments by default.
  3. Optional Toggle / Advanced Lookup:
  4. Add filters in the lookup dialog:
  • Show only Published
  • Show all
  • Show Draft / Inactive / Deleted
  1. Admin Setting:
  2. Allow admins to configure allowed segment states for selection in journeys.

This small UI enhancement would significantly reduce errors and simplify the journey creation experience.

Why This Matters

Real-Time Marketing users expect the journey builder to surface only actionable, ready-to-use segments. Showing unavailable or invalid segments makes the interface less intuitive and increases the chance of misconfiguration. This enhancement supports:

  • Data quality
  • Operational accuracy
  • Better user experience
  • Reduced support requests
