For one of our customers, Purchase order confirmation batch job got stuck in executing state on PROD. This happened on 12/06 but was identified accidently on 12/21 which caused a significant concern to customer business as the PO confirmation was not sent to the suppliers for 2 weeks. We had to manually confirm and trigger the emails for ~60 POs.

Based on the discussion with Microsoft support team, this happened due to batch throttling and was an outage on that specific day. But as the outage impact was low and limited to some regions this was not notified to customers.

We can monitor batch jobs using batch alerts. However, as per the standard D365 functionality, we can setup batch job alerts only for Ended, Error and Cancelled state. In this case batch job was stuck in executing state. As we understand in this case, we need to go for a manual monitoring as there is no mechanism to setup in the system.

Request to Microsoft is to add a functionality to setup alerts when batch job is stuck in executing for more than a specific period (something like weekly alerts).

Yes, this functionality should exist, so that we can get to know if there are issues with the batch jobs even if the batch is in executing state.
