Way out there, but I realized I've asked it of executives at Microsoft events, but never created an Idea for it.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a whole host of powerful technologies:
- AL
- System App
- Web Client
- Mobile Client
- PowerApps / 365 / Teams integrations
- OData / API
- SQL / SIFT / etc
This framework is VERY powerful, even without the ERP "Base Application".
What I would love, so very much, is if there was some licensing scenario where the technology stack (without any of the ERP system components) could be licensed for use as a core technology to build whole new systems with.
This could be a base price at a server level, than a slim per-user cost, allowing more use of the framework outside the BC space. This would encourage a wider adoption of the tools, making there more incentive to have developers learn and use the stack, possibly addressing the looming shortages, while creating a new revenue stream.
I suspect it's way outside BC team's core mission, but creating the idea anyway to see if tens or hundreds would also be interested.
