Currently in Business Central Analysis Mode, calculated fields (for example, custom dimensions such as Shortcut Dimension 3 Code / Area Code) are automatically removed when users use "Add columns from" to bring in fields from related tables.

While Microsoft has confirmed this is a product design decision for performance reasons, it significantly limits the usability of Analysis Mode for end users. Users often need to analyse both calculated fields and related table data together, but the current behaviour forces them to choose one or the other.

This results in:

  • Loss of previously configured analysis views.
  • Reduced flexibility when analysing data directly within Business Central.
  • Additional effort exporting data to Excel for further analysis.
  • Reduced adoption of Analysis Mode as a self-service reporting tool.

Suggested Enhancement:

  • Allow calculated fields and related table fields to coexist in Analysis Mode.
  • If performance is a concern, provide a warning to the user rather than removing calculated fields automatically.
  • Alternatively, allow administrators or users to enable this functionality via a setting, accepting any associated performance impact.

This enhancement would provide a more intuitive user experience and reduce the need to export data to Excel for analysis.
