Currently, in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, the system restricts modifying or copying the route unless the production order status is set to “Created.” This behavior is confirmed as by design.

However, in real-world manufacturing scenarios, production orders are often already in Scheduled or Released status when route adjustments are required due to operational changes, resource availability, or optimization needs.

To apply route changes today, users must:

1. Reset the parent production order status to Created
2. Make the required changes
3. Re-estimate the order
4. Use the “Change route” periodic job

This workaround:

• Requires multiple manual steps
• Introduces operational risk (especially in live production scenarios)
• Can impact scheduling, costing, and planning accuracy
• Is not user-friendly for business users

Requested enhancement:

Provide the ability to:

• Modify or copy routes directly for production orders in Scheduled or Released status
• Or introduce a controlled mechanism (with validation) to update routes without resetting the production order status
