Prevent users to change role

I would like an option on the profile/role which prevents users assigned to the specific role to change role under my settings in the role center. If I assign users as team members, they can easily change to a more extensive role by themselves.

From the perspective of basic internal security, this issue seems to be "basic 101". Thanks for the work around suggestions but again, why is it designed in a way to start with which allows a user to change their own level of access. Bizarre!

One option is to use customise page for the profile. Go to My Settings and hide the role option line. While I am not an IT professional it does seem to achieve my goal that users can not change profiles.

Would be great if this is extended to open the My Settings Page in READ-ONLY Mode by means of a Permission Set so that the other fields which are set for a company like work date and company are also not possible to be changed by end users in addition to the Profile / Role
