1. Objective

Enhance the existing Standard Cost Worksheet functionality in Dynamics 365 Business Central to support Stockkeeping Units (SKUs) in all relevant standard cost calculation and implementation processes.


2. Requirements

2.1 Add SKU Type to Standard Cost Worksheet

  • Extend the Standard Cost worksheet to support a new Type: "Stockkeeping Unit".
  • Currently supported types include:
  • Item
  • Resource
  • Work Center
  • Machine Center
  • The new SKU type should allow filtering and processing per Item + Variant + Location combinations.

2.2 Cost Suggestion Procedures

  • After executing:
  • Suggest Item Standard Cost (for purchased materials)
  • Suggest Capacity Standard Cost (for work and machine centers)
  • Users must be able to propose a New Standard Cost manually or via suggestion using Roll up Standard Cost function, including for SKUs.

2.3 Roll-up Standard Cost Calculation

  • The Roll-up Standard Cost function must:
  • Automatically calculate New Standard Cost from bottom to top levels, Based  on Production BOM (PBOM) and Routings.
  • Apply the same algorithm to SKUs if:
  • SKU Replenishment system = "Production"
  • PBOM and Routing exist for the SKU.
  • New calculated costs should include:
  • Single-Level Standard Cost
  • Rolled-Up Standard Cost

 Note: At this stage, new standard costs are not yet implemented, and Inventory revaluation is not triggered.

Important: New standard costs must be calculated per Item + Variant + Location level.

2.4 Implement Standard Cost Changes

  • Upon user action (Implement Standard Cost Changes), the system must:
  • Update the Standard Cost field on the SKU Card.
  • Generate a Revaluation Journal for the corresponding changes

2.5 Revaluation Journal Integration

  • The system must generate Revaluation Journal Lines for each:
  • Item + Variant + Location combination.
  • The Unit Cost Revalued in the journal must:
  • Match the Standard Cost on the related SKU, if such a SKU exists.

I have had multiple clients request the ability to have Standard Cost by Location and have had to implement various work arounds to address these needs. In order to support that would have to ensure that changes in standard costs as an item moves from one location to the other are handled.This would be huge feature for standard cost environments.

And it could be an idea to combine it with the BOM Structure functionality. Just like it is on the Item Card.
