Business Central has functionality to compress General Ledger Entries, Customer Ledger Entries, etc. We would like this functionality to be extended to need to be able to compress Item Ledger Entries (which would necessarily include subsidiary tables such as Value Entry, Item Application Entry, etc.).
A large amount of data in these tables slows down many other functions such as:
- Adjust Cost Item Entry
- Implement Standard Cost
- Inventory Valuation report
- Inventory Reconcile to G/L report
Compressing Item Ledger Entries would improve performance in all of the above functions.

It’s indeed important for us to implement a compression strategy. We run an online business, and our Value Entry table has grown to 40,784,821 records. Stock reports have become slow, and we now rely on our data warehouse for most inventory analyses. Business Central has been running since 2022, and we would really like to compress these tables.

As a Business Central tenant with a very very large database size and table sizes, this would greatly improve the users experiences navigating/filtering item ledger entries, value entries and general ledger entries.Our ILE screen will spin and spin as users are filtering and navigating. Very frustrating for them.We would see improved reporting through Jet Reports or BI as these also take extra time to work through the large db size.PLEASE add this to the roadmap!!
