We are experiencing issues with the Bank Account Reconciliation feature specifically with cheques.

  • First, we have set up the Bank Statement Import with a data exchange definition to get cheque number information when we are importing bank transaction from a csv files.
  • On the Bank Account Reconciliations page, we have personalized the bank section to have Document No. and Cheque No. to be able to compare with Ledger entries with the same cheques number.
  • The Bank Statement has around 500 transactions per month and most of the payments are made by cheques (80% of the transactions).
  • When we use the action Match Automatically and when some transactions cannot be matched within the Tolerance Days, it seems the system is matching with wrong transactions. He’s trying to absolutely match the transaction even if it’s not the right one. It seems it doesn’t consider Cheque or Document No. He’s looking only the Amount and date.
  • When we use Copilot Reconcile, we cannot enter a number of Tolerance Days, so we have the same issue as mentioned before and the system matches the cheques with the wrong ones even if we have Cheque No. and Document No. in my Bank Statement Lines.
  • So, we need at this step to validate the matched transactions. What are we supposed to do?
  • No existing report is available in Business Central to give confident match to review it instead of taking each transaction one by one and see Match Details for one Bank statement line at a time. In GP, per example we have a page that we can see that separated matched transaction with a certain confidence to correct them. (the Match Confidence field is at NONE for each transaction match in green!)
  • We must validate each Proposal one by one. It would be interesting to have a column in the previous screen that indicates the matched Document No. We can see it by clicking on the “Match entry…” in the Proposal column but we must do it one by one. It’s no very effective.
  • To be able to validate more than one by one transaction and see with which transaction a cheque is matched, we need to personalize the profile used for Bank Reconciliation page and add for Bank Statement Line and Bank Account Ledger Entries section field Statement Line No.
  • Then we export in Excel both side that is creating 2 differents Excel Sheet that we need to compare by formula vlookup on Statement Line andCheque no. to make sure the right cheque no is the same for both side…
  • Another suggestion for improvement would be when we need to match multiple lines on the Bank Account Ledger Entries to the Bank Statement Lines, it can be helpful to have a Total selected for the selected lines in the Bank Account Ledger Entries section to help the user to match with the Bank Statement Lines.

As a partner, we have to explain this on a training session to show how a bank reconciliation is done in Business Central. The number of the cheques are not recognized in first in the match automatically for all transaction and then after look for date and amount.

We take a long time to do a bank reconciliation that is supposed to be done easily automatically but we still do it by using 2 Excel file to review and compare transctions.

We think that we need tools to validate better the matched transactions globally and not one by one. Now, we don’t have any tools to validate the matching. We need to have confidence in the system but with what we can see, we don’t have any confidence in it.

Using Match Automatically a better way we must increase the Transaction Date Tolerance Days to a minimum of 6 months! With Copilot, no question on the number of days to use.
