A new functionality has been introduced to allow multiple funding sources for sales orders. A new suggestion is actually in review for Item requirements.
It would be nice to enable this feature for service orders and service agreements where one can select a funding source when creating a service order or service agreement. It's quite often that a company signs a unique contract for services that must be provided to different subsidiaries in different locations, thus having only one project and one project contract but several funding sources.
