Users make mistakes in their daily work and it is not unusual for a member of the finance team to upload a lot of wrong data or delete data. Running year end without completing all the data changes is another common mistake. Not being able to perform an on demand backup prior to performing a destructive task is a big miss in this product. Conversely there needs to be a on demand restore function.

I agree too, restoring a backup is necessary.
We should not (but we will have) the following problems:
- a problem when updating an app from the app source failed (the service has problem from MS server side, or the app causes problems immediately after the upgrade, or the data upgrade causes problems)
- a PTE is deployed and unfortunately causes dataloss
- customer or partner mistakes, especially on big changes in the company life (splitting a company in two entities, or integrating data from another company after a merging them)

Currently asking the support to restore a backup takes days... and backups are done every 5 minutes (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/faq)

There is a heavy problem:
If this Backup is done just before a update was scheduled, my backup is useless, or unrestorable.

A finance person loaded up some incorrect GST/VAT Posting codes data  via excel into one of the companies and has managed to break most transactions.  Luckily we have not gone live yet.

So the BC user story I have is;

As an Admin

I want to restore a single company to before the incident

So that I can fix that specific company without rolling back the other companies in the tenancy.

I can do this in the CE 365 environment at the instance level and just want the same ability in Business Central.

Even just better insights on the status of backups would be greatly appreciated. I do agree with other comments on this thread though. From what I understand, the Dynamics 365 backups are just SQL backups using the Full recovery model, so it would be very nice if admins like myself could have the ability to choose a restore point and execute the restore. I understand taking control of the backup execution out of the hands of the customer, but for peace of mind, we'd like to have control of the restore process. Thanks.

the admin-center is the place where it should be implemented ....
a restore-functionality is a must have and should be available for the customer (or the admin)

Obviously, this is a must-have. It's not used often here, but it happens a few times a year that we need to restore something from a previous date to take a look at a document the way that it was "as of some point in time."

I'll take it a step further and ask for the world while I'm at it. It would be incredible to be able to restore single objects, either overwriting the current version, or restoring a past document to a new one to do a comparison. This kind of thing already is available for files on operating systems and with other backup software. I recognize that there are many technical details that I'm ignorant to, but it sure would be great.

Not only production but also when creating sandbox to take it form a certain date and time from production

Totally agree on this. We should be able from Partner Center to restore Production environment to a certain point in time.
