Idea Description
We would like to submit an enhancement request regarding the behavior of work creation during Transfer Order Release in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management.
Current behavior
During the release of transfer orders in Warehouse Management, the system may create multiple Work IDs for Transfer Issue instead of generating a single consistent work header. Microsoft has indicated that this behavior is currently based on product design and may vary depending on configuration and data conditions.
Business problem
Although this may be considered standard behavior, it creates an operational issue for warehouse execution. When multiple Work IDs are generated unexpectedly for the same transfer release scenario, it can reduce process clarity for operators, increase the risk of execution mistakes, and negatively affect productivity in the distribution center.
From the business perspective, the issue is not only the existence of multiple Work IDs, but the lack of a predictable and consistent work generation outcome for similar transfer order scenarios.
Requested enhancement
We request an enhancement that allows customers to control or enforce a more consistent work creation behavior during Transfer Order Release, especially the option to generate a single Work ID when business conditions are expected to be equivalent.
Examples of possible enhancement approaches:
- A configuration parameter to force single Work ID generation for Transfer Issue work
- A more explicit grouping rule for transfer issue work creation
- Clearer setup options to prevent unexpected work splitting under similar operational conditions
- Better visibility into the exact rule or condition that causes work to split
Why this is needed
This topic has already gone through multiple Microsoft support cycles over a long period of time.

Across those cases, the issue was investigated, reproduced, escalated, reviewed in shadow environments, and even associated with previous bug discussions and future version expectations. However, no stable and validated correction was confirmed in operation.
The current Microsoft position is that the behavior is working by design. For that reason, we are submitting this request through the Ideas portal so the product team can evaluate the need for a functional improvement.
Expected result
Customers should have a reliable and configurable way to avoid unexpected work splitting during Transfer Order Release, or at minimum have explicit control and transparency over the conditions that generate multiple Work IDs.
