Currently, the Capacity Ledger Entries page displays the Quantity column using the base unit from the Work Center Card, while the Capacity Unit of Measure Code column refers to the unit selected in the Production Journal.
When the capacity unit differs from the Work Center Group unit, this creates confusion.
For example, the Work Center Card may use hours as the standard unit, but when reporting times through the Production Journal, the capacity unit can be changed via the dropdown (e.g., to industrial minutes for specific operations, days, minutes, ...).
Example:
Base unit on work center card = minutes.
In the Production Journal, we report several times that equal one hour in total, but we change the capacity unit in the lines.
So, when posting 1 hour, the Capacity Ledger Entries show:
- Quantity = 60 & Capacity Unit of Measure Code = hour
This looks like we posted 60 hours instead of 1 hour (= 60 minutes).
Similarly, if we post 100 industrial minutes, the capacity ledger shows:
- Quantity = 60 (correct, because 100 industrial minutes = 60 standard minutes) & Capacity Unit of Measure Code = industrial minutes
The viewer mistakenly thinks 60 industrial minutes were posted (which equals only 36 standard minutes).
Proposed Enhancement:
Add the following columns to the Capacity Ledger Entries page:
- Quantity from the production journal --> 60
- Capacity Unit of measure code from the production jounal --> minutes
- The calculated quantity regarding the unit of measure code from the work center card --> 1
- Capacity Unit from the work center card --> hour
This way, users can clearly see:
- The quantity and unit booked in the Production Journal
- The converted quantity in the Work Center’s base unit
- The actual base unit of the Work Center Group
and this would
- eliminates confusion when different units are used
- improves transparency for production reporting and auditing
- reduces interpretation errors for planners and controllers
.
