Dynamics 365 Project Operations technically supports a 1:N relationship between a project contract and multiple quotes.

However, despite this data model, the application does not allow a quote to be won and applied to an existing contract.

The “close as won” process always generates a new contract, even when the quote represents a contract amendment.

This creates several limitations:

  • In real projects, amendments often follow a formal quoting and approval workflow.
  • Even though a contract can reference several quotes, none of those quotes can update or extend the existing contract through the standard win process.
  • This forces the creation of multiple parallel contracts, fragmenting the contractual history and complicating reporting, governance, and auditability.
  • Organizations need contract amendments to remain part of a single, continuous contractual lifecycle, not split across separate contract records.

Request

Introduce a native capability to:

  • Win a quote directly into an existing project contract, instead of always generating a new one.
  • Allow users to select the target contract during the “close as won” operation.
  • Add quote lines to the chosen contract while maintaining consistency of pricing, currency, contracting unit, and project associations.

Business Impact

  • Ensures a single source of truth for the contractual lifecycle, including amendments.
  • Improves auditability and eliminates contract fragmentation.
  • Reduces reliance on customizations, manual updates, and off‑system tracking.
  • Aligns Project Operations with contractual governance practices used in most project‑based organizations.
