A new choice 'Use net weight by variant', similar to 'Use cost price by variant' can be added to the released product master to allow flexibility where weight doesn't change per variant.
Currently there's no field to capture this information which may lead to customization to get the functionality.
Can net weight field be added to released product variant form?

In addition, since it's possible to specify different BOMs on different product variants (versions, when using ECM) it's reasonable to assume these will not weigh the same. It should be possible to specify weight on version/variant.

We also need this functionality to correctly calculate load and shipment weights. Currently pursuing an extension to make this work but this should be in the standard logic. We have unit conversions now per variant so we would love to have weight per variant as well.

This need is very common in retail fashion industry where sizes are used and of course a XXL size is heaviest than a XS one

It is a significant oversite that this is no longer included in D365. When planning shipments and loads, the product variants need to have the dimensions and weights spelled out as a SMALL item vs a LARGE item could be in a bigger box and have a bigger weight. With versions also being a variant, the impact of not having these fields is even larger now.
This functionality is long overdue.
