Within the European Union companies selling abroad are obliged to check the VAT-number of their customers. Some countries provide an online possibility to check if a vat number is valid. For example Germany via XML-interface https://evatr.bff-online.de/eVatR/xmlrpc/. Also the EU commission has started to provide a checking possibility via SOAP-Query-Service on the MIAS database. https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/.
The simple inquiry gives back whether the vat number is valid or not.
A qualified inquiry gives back whether the vat number belongs to a specified name and address.
This query succeeds the simple inquiry and is not available within MIAS so far.
I have seen different workarounds with individual development in D365 for Finance. Business Central also has a solution in standard. However, an interesting solution I have found in an auditors financial software: When the EU-sales-list is created, all customers involved can be checked, whether the VAT-ID is valid. A list is created with the results. This limits the checks to relevant customers per reporting period. It would be nice to have such a functionality included in D365 for finance.

There is a solution from BE Terna (VAT Number Validation) in the appsource.microsoft.com.

This is really a functionality which is needed to stay compliant within the European Union. This is also required due to the upcoming EU regulations related to ViDA - Vat in the Digital Age.

Any news on this matter.
