Item Tracking - Number Series related to Production Output:

Scenario: A produced (manufactred) Item includes SN Specific and/or LN Specific Tracking. The Item with Serial No. and/or Lot No. has a predefined No. Series with Default Nos. set to TRUE and Manual Nos. set to FALSE. in the No Series Lines. However, the Serial No. and/or Lot No. can be manually entered on the Output Item quantity in the Output Journal or Production Journal, which bypasses the automatic number assignment.

Findings: In current design, the Default No and Manual No setting in the No. Series Lines Table is primarily used with Document creation. It is not designed as part of Item Tracking assignment control.

There is concern with changing the feature in base version to prevent overriding the assigned number when Default is TRUE and Manual No. is FALSE. We are looking for feedback on how many companies are looking for this level of control to determine how a change should be incorporated into standard Business Central for Item Tracking control.

Hi

Thank you for this idea. I also can share some feedback with 3 real world examples:

1) For FDA regulated companies SN is really essential. With the current design, production user can enter any SN and ignore the Default No. Hence, if company needs to send out recall for product based on SN it is a high chance the owner of manually created SN (by mistake and because of design) will not be notify about recall.

2) The above scenario is valid on food industry as well.

3) Also, production user can manually overwrite SN (ignoring Default No) and produce 2 (or more) different parts with same SN.

Thanks
