The 9.x Outlook App has added an "entity type selector" on the "set regarding" field to filter the results by record type. This is an improvement over the 8.2 app, which did not allow entity type filtering on the "set regarding" field. However the 9.x "entity type selector" is difficult to use: (1) it's a horizontal scroll bar that only shows 1-3 items at a time depending on how long your entity names are, so users need to click several times to scroll through the list, (2) the scroll animation is not smooth, but appears to jump and stick as it moves, (3) there is no way to designate the order in which the entities appear in the scroll list, which for my org means the most commonly used "regarding" entities are stuck at the far end of the list, (4) the "entity type selector" is implemented in small, light grey text that gets lost in the visual hierarchy of information, so users tend not to notice that it's there, (5) the "entity type selector" does not swipe left to right on mobile, instead the user must press an arrow button that is disproportionately small and difficult to click accurately, (6) the regarding search results are no longer divided with headers by entity type like they were in the 8.2 version, meaning that users now need to be able to recognize the new SVG entity icons, and (7) the regarding search results do not respect the Quick Find view configuration, making it harder to differentiate between records with similar names.

All of these issues could be resolved by making the "set regarding" interface look more like the UI for Global Search as implemented in the 9.x Outlook app. The Global Search UI has a clear visual hierarchy of information, a simple drop-down "entity type selector" that accommodates a custom list order, and the search results respect the standard Quick View card layout that users encounter everywhere else inside Dynamics.
