Currently, once an Opportunity is created or generated from a Prospect, with respective Prospect account in the Name field, the Name field could not be modified further and consequently the opportunity cannot be re-assigned to a different Prospect.

This might create issues in some business scenarios, when for instance once assumed to be end customer (Prospect) is assigned an Opportunity, however at a later stage it turns out the Prospect is actually a sub-contractor.

The suggestion is that from an Opportunity record, users are able to click on the down arrow in the NAME field and be able to choose a different prospect account to tie this opportunity onto. All prospect accounts in the entity should appear on that menu so that the user can choose the correct one. Consequently, looking up the opportunities for the re-assigned prospect should list the Opportunity whose Name field has been modified.

We need to be able to change the prospect that is assigned to an opportunity in D365. We register Opportunities strictly against the end customer for transparency and ensuring the OPP is not registered multiple times which can happen if registered against end customer and multiple subbies in error, for example. On occasion it happens that we are made aware that the supposed end customer is in fact a subby and only then find out the real end customer name. Rather than cancel the OPP and re-enter and add to any potential confusion by having new reference numbers, we need to be able to change the prospect named in the OPP to the correct one and name the subby in the relevant field in the OPP. Being able to do this, means a lot to how we work and would be a great development.
