Business Central should make it much easier to connect standard electronic logistics documents such as DESADV, ASN, and electronic packing slips through the standard E-Document framework.

We are not asking Microsoft to build a complete industry-specific logistics solution for every market. The important improvement would be to extend the existing E-Document framework so these document types can be connected through external service providers, access points, or document exchange operators, in the same practical way that e-invoicing is becoming easier to connect.

Today, many companies need to exchange electronic logistics documents with retail chains, warehouses, and trading partners. In many cases, the business need is not a fully custom solution. It is simply the ability to subscribe to a service provider or exchange operator and connect Business Central to standard document flows without expensive one-off development projects.

This would make Business Central much more practical for small and mid-sized companies that need to meet customer requirements for electronic logistics communication, but cannot justify large custom integration costs for each new partner.

Examples of benefits:

  • Lower implementation cost
  • Faster onboarding of new customers and trading partners
  • Less dependency on expensive custom EDI projects
  • Easier use of third-party exchange providers or access points
  • Better support for standard logistics document flows in retail and supply chain environments

Business Central already has a strong direction with the E-Document framework. Extending it to cover standard logistics documents such as DESADV / ASN / electronic packing slips would be a very valuable next step.
