Hi Microsoft,

All customers using more than 2 dimensions (Global) are in need to use the shortcut dimensions 3-8. And they can easily use and book to the shortcut dimensions in their gl journals etc.

But when they want to work with these additional dimensions for financial reporting purposes, they are only able to see the 2 global dimensions in the booked gl entries and not the 3-8 additional dimensions they have created. Most people within finance needs to be able to export everything out to excel and create a pivottable or something similar.

So the idea/suggestion is to make shortcut dimensions show the same way as the global dimensions are showing in the booked gl entries with their own field/columns.

Many thanks in advance!

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We have decided to deliver this idea and make it available with Business Central 2020 release wave 2 December Update (17.3).

You can now use shortcut dimensions in entries pages, such as general ledger entries, customer or vendor ledger entries and many others, to ease your ad hoc financial reporting by dimension needs.

Learn more about what's new and planned for Use shortcut dimensions in G/L Entries for financial reporting in the release plan here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2020wave2/smb/dynamics365-business-central/use-shortcut-dimensions-gl-entries-financial-reporting

I see this update was pushed out recently. Our shortcut 3 dimension shows up in all ledger reports now, though a value only appears for newly created dimension codes. Is there a setting we need to change for the old dimension codes to show in reports? It would be disappointing if this change only applies to new dimensions.

Necessary!

Completely agree. This is an oversight as this is one place where you really want to easily see the dimensions. The two global dimensions should also be visible by default (currently hidden and need to be added via personalisation. It would also be nice to have a factbox that shows all dimensions.

Hi,
I have to agree with Mikael Thusgaard Johansson, and it would be really nice feature to support more then 2 dimensions to be posted in GL Entry and all linked tables, but we should agree on number of dimensions here.

What do you mean by 3-8? If setup has only 4 dimensions should only 4 be posted then, and what about 5-8 dimensions? Sure, values can be posted as blanks, but that would then mean to support all 8 dimensions everywhere in any table, etc.
We should say that out-of-the-box there should be 8 dimensions required per company.

Frankly, I have dealt with customers that used at least 8 dimensions (the UK, Holland, Germany, Adriatic Region).

Thank you

Hi Liza,

Your app looks interesting and this is exactly what is needed, but I really do believe that this is something that needs to handled in the standard application, because of so many customers having more than 2 dimensions.

This is especially important when migrating from SL where there can be many sub-accounts.

As it happens, there is an app for that :-)

The app Smart Dimensions gives you the possibility ta add dimensions 3-8 as columns and (and a fact box) in your G/L entries. In addition to that you will be able to set up automatic standard diemnsions on the most important master data tables.

The app is availiable in Sweden, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Finland, France, United Kingdom, Norway, New Zeeland and United States at the moment but the plan is to publish in all markets so please let us know if you need it in a non published market and we will do our best to get it out as soon as possible.
