Adding a family card that uses the same points and tier as the main card. Today you can redeem from another card but the earning and tier level is still per card. Family members needs be be added on the same card as the tier calculation is based on, severals cards contributing to the same balance and tier calculation.

In a DAX2012 instance we have implemented the "Family cards" like Ran described, but used the second scenario: we have assigned the loyalty cards to the contact instead of the customer.

This requirement becomes more and more normal within the retail industry. Together with the shift to less physical loyalty card. We are currently doing an implementation were we have the exact same requirement: "As a family, each family member is an individual customer, but we save loyalty points together". In application terms, it should be possible to make a family <> family member structure AND to earn/redeem loyalty points on family level.
Currently we are exploring the path of implementing a family entity and linking multiple customer accounts to this entity. This way, a family can be linked to a loyalty card and multiple customers.
Alternatively seeing the customer account as the family and contacts as the individual customer would also be a possible way to go.
