The most common filter (after filtering to a single value) is to filter to an interval of values.

For new users the .. syntax is not very intuitive.

My suggestion is that a new "assisted edit" button on such filter fields should be added for this - allowing the user to have two separate fields for from and to values.
Internally this could still be handled like usual, so the GUI should just show .. as two separate fields (if this new functionality is enabled) and after user edit it can be translated back to the normal filter value again.
Preferable BC should "remember" this setting per field, so the user can select individual for each field if this functionality is enabled.

I think this is difficult to handle, since you can combine to range filters in one field.
And how should this assist button handle these two ranges?

You are right the current way to type in range filter is optimised for power users, but I think it is difficult to create a nice bridge between a beginner and a power user
