In many different leave scenarios, if a period of leave requested is more than a number of days (or hours) it requires further approval rather than the normal manager or HR. Or it may need a notification so that HR can request documents such as doctors notes for longer term illness etc. We need a condition in the workflow to be based off the number of days or hours so that we can service this requirement for customers.
