For the standard tracking dimensions, e.g. batch, but also for the tracking dimensions of the new extensible inventory dimensions framework, we need to allow reservation hierarchy to shift dinamically from "dimension below" to "dimension above" for the same item, allowing for a faculty reservation of specific dimension.

You have announced this feature for the batch dimension in the "What's new" note of July 2017 release:

"For the next major release, the following features are currently planned and more will be added to this list:
Allow reservation hierarchy to shift from batch below to batch above for the same item, allowing for ad-hoc reservation of specific batches."
