Basically, we have a lot of different products that we need to manufacture in production. So that we do not have to maintain a specific routing for each product, we have packed all similarities into one route for a group of products. For example, setup times that always remain or the same or cleaning times.

For pre-picking and adding raw materials, we would have to make a time recording for each product so that we could determine the total time. So we thought we would use separate routes for each raw material (with their own setup time and processing time) and when generating production orders we know the input quantities of the raw materials and use these quantities and the raw material routing to calculate times that we then transfer to the production order as a total.

The advantage is that collective routing structures can be used for many different products. The manual effort required to create the routing is reduced enormously.
