Per the *direct print* feature preview 2020-03-18 Word, Excel, fillable PDF are the only ER configuration formats allowed to be setup with a printer destination. Other formats: Text, XML, JSON must be allowed for a direct print too. No translation to PDF is needed, text content must be set to a printer destination without any conversion.
Text output to a printer required to enable multiple label printing scenarios where labels are prepared as utf-8 text describing label content in ZPL II language. Zebra thermal printer hardware does all the formatting, rendering barcodes, and graphics.
