Production BOM SKUs should be different from Item Masters

Production BOM SKUs is to be assigned to items with different packaging, size, or brand. eg. 25kg/sack of rice, 1kg/pack of rice.

Production BOM SKUs will be assigned as BOM on Production BOM line as BOM.

The system should automatically select whichever Item has the available inventory based on the assigned Production BOM SKUs or near to expire inventory.

Your examples "5kg/sack of rice", "1kg/pack of rice" sounds to me as different products or variants of products.

There is "Item Substitute feature, however it requires user to make decision to replace original item. Please log a separate suggestion about exactly that enhancement.

There is also an idea about expiration date in MRP/MPS planning, please check if that addresses some of your requirements (and vote if it does):
