i would like to have all editable pages for all users opened in read-only mode WITHOUT disabling the edit mode for the users.
Basically i want the editable pages to be shown in read only first, then if the user wants to change something in the page the user would ACTIVELY click on the edit button at the top of the page.
Can i do that in MBC?
Thanks,
Matteo

This setting would help us a lot. Is there meanwhile anything planned for the next update?

This should be a fundamental setting. I have never understood why it is so easy to change an item description, customer name, posting group etc etc without there being either a save button to press to confirm the changes or an edit button to press in order to make the change. I have 100% confidence that every single business using dynamics has had this issue at some point or other!

I agree with above, and would just like to add an argument to the decission making. We are 7 weeks into our use of BC with +30 users and even though we have been thorough with user rights management too many users can still change a customer or an item and does so by accident every day... Especially customer name and item name seems to disappear because the user often places the cursor in this field so a simple backspace, delete or as the text in the field is already highlighted any normal key and the original text is exchanged for a letter or nothing... Undo very often fixes the situation but why have the drama if already existing functionality just have to be either defined in rights, setup or even as a part of "Personalize". EVEN BETTER why not just save my choice so if i press the pencil in the top to toggle between read and edit, then let me start in same mode as I left that view or table in last time I was there.Basically just give me a choice - no matter how or where.

This should be basic functionality, because there is no save button!Either make it possible to be able to choose the read-only mode by extension or create a setting for this as Martin suggested.

Indeed I think this is basic functionality. I would normally expect that when opening a card it would be default to read-only, then selecting edit would allow the edits. Although yes you might see some kickback from long time users, this is in fact a normal way of working. Creating a new record would of course always be in edit mode...I am only on the program for now 8 months we have had multiple instances of users accidentally changing a field. It is too much work to research and reverse this change that honestly was unintentional and never should have happened. Because BC does not have an undo or even a save (admittedly is annoying), I would expect this to be turn on edit, not turn on view - this in fact seems ironic that this is there...Most people open a card to view its properties, not edit them.I have turned to workflows to approve edits, this is a savior, but a dumb way to ensure this basic prevention of unintentional edits.

I would like to complete this request as to say you would like to be able to set this in the system generally per tenant or even being able to set this per page. Some customers need this feature and others would hate it, thus the need to be able to set it generally per tenant./Martin

Thank you for this suggestion! Currently this is not on our roadmap. We are tracking this idea and if it gathers more votes and comments we will consider it in the future.
